Expanding Access to Finance Through Digital Innovation

At Digital Development Hub (DD Hub), we leverage financial technology to expand access to inclusive, affordable, and secure financial services for underserved populations—particularly youth, women, MSMEs, informal entrepreneurs, and rural communities.

Our FinTech work bridges the gap between technology, financial institutions, regulators, and end users, ensuring digital finance solutions are practical, trusted, and aligned with local realities.

What We Do

1. MSME Digitization & Financial Readiness

We support micro, small, and medium enterprises to transition from cash-based operations to digitally enabled, financially inclusive businesses through:

  • Digital bookkeeping and record-keeping tools
  • Mobile payments and POS adoption
  • Financial literacy and savings culture programs
  • Credit readiness and loan documentation support
  • Digital identity and compliance awareness

2. Digital Banking & Financial Infrastructure Advisory

We work with financial institutions to design and implement inclusive digital banking systems that improve service delivery and financial access for underserved populations.

This includes:

  • Core digital banking transformation advisory
  • Mobile and agent banking models
  • User-centric fintech product design
  • Financial inclusion strategy development

3. Youth, Women & PWD Financial Inclusion Programs

Our programs intentionally target excluded groups by:

  • Designing inclusive financial training pathways
  • Supporting women-led and youth-led enterprises
  • Promoting accessible digital financial tools for PWDs
  • Linking skills training to income-generating opportunities

Real-Life Impact Example

Digital Transformation for MSMEs & Community Entrepreneurs (Kano State)

Between 2023 and 2024, DD Hub delivered a Digital Optimization and Financial Readiness Program for MSMEs, informal traders, and community entrepreneurs across Kano State.

What We Did

  • Trained MSMEs on digital bookkeeping, mobile payments, and basic financial management
  • Supported the transition from cash-only operations to digital payment and record systems
  • Built understanding of creditworthiness, loan documentation, and financial compliance
  • Linked entrepreneurs to formal financial institutions and digital financial services

Results

  • MSMEs improved financial record-keeping, enabling better business planning
  • Participants became loan-ready, with clearer cash-flow and transaction histories
  • Women-led businesses increased their use of mobile payments and digital savings tools
  • Youth entrepreneurs transitioned from informal operations to formal financial engagement

This program demonstrated how simple, context-appropriate FinTech interventions can unlock access to finance, improve business resilience, and accelerate local economic growth.

Institutional FinTech Delivery Example

Digital Banking Transformation – Shunku pay  Microfinance Bank

DD Hub was engaged to support the digital infrastructure development and FinTech transformation of Shunku Microfinance Bank, with the objective of evolving the institution into a fully digitized, inclusion-driven microfinance bank.

Our Role

  • Digital banking systems design and advisory
  • Financial technology integration for service efficiency
  • Support for inclusive banking models targeting low-income users

Impact

  • Improved access to financial services for previously underserved customers
  • Enhanced operational efficiency and customer experience
  • Strengthened the bank’s capacity to support MSMEs and micro-entrepreneurs

This engagement highlights DD Hub’s ability to work across both demand-side (citizens & MSMEs) and supply-side (financial institutions) financial inclusion ecosystems.

Why It Matters

Across Nigeria, millions remain excluded from formal financial systems due to:

  • Lack of financial literacy

  • Informality of businesses

  • Limited access to digital tools

DD Hub’s FinTech interventions address these gaps by combining technology, training, and institutional partnerships to deliver inclusive financial systems that work for real people.

Investment Opportunities

Donor and partner support will enable DD Hub to scale FinTech & Financial Inclusion through:

  • MSME financial readiness and digitization programs

  • Youth and women-focused digital finance fellowships

  • Inclusive FinTech pilots for rural and underserved communities

  • Digital banking transformation support for microfinance institutions

  • Policy dialogue on inclusive digital finance ecosystems

Our Vision

An Africa where every entrepreneur, young person, woman, and person with a disability can access and use digital financial services to build sustainable livelihoods, grow enterprises, and participate fully in the digital economy.
